Mensa Trademark
In the UK, the word Mensa is of course trademarked by British Mensa Ltd. It is also trademarked by Tripart Farm Chemicals Limited for Chemical products, preparations and growing media for agricultural, horticultural and silvicultural purposes; fertilizers, manures, composts and plant growth enhancers; foliar feeds; wetting agents for use with agrochemicals; soil conditioners and also by Howe UK Limited for tables;tables sold as sets or as nests, all for office or commercial use..Surprised? Well trademarks are for individual classes- there are some 40 odd classes and a word or phrase is trademarked in one or more classes. British Mensa Ltd has trademarks in a number of classes relating to puzzles, video games, tests, consultancy and lots more. So next time you see the word Mensa used, if it is in a class that it is trademarked then the user may be acting illegally but otherwise its ok. E.G. You could sell Mensa Soap as this is in class 3 and not listed as a registered trademark in that class which includes Bleaching preparations and other substances for laundry use; cleaning, polishing, scouring and abrasive preparations; soaps; perfumery, essential oils, cosmetics, hair lotions; dentifrices.
