Mind Sports Olympiad - London 2006
Nothing to do with Mensa btw but one of the Mind Sports Olympiad's founders was Tony Buzan (the Mind Mapping chap) and former editor of the Mensa International Journal though now no longer involved with MSO. Others involved include David Levy, an International Master at Chess and in the past Raymond Keene, a Chess Grandmaster but he left a few years back. The MSO is about playing games and cost £125 for the whole nine days or you can pay per game. While Chess not surprisingly was one of the most popular in the past, now (according to this Press Release) Poker is the ingame- I'm surprised they haven't approached one of the big online casinos for sponsorship. One of my all time favourite games is Acquire (by Sid Sackson) and that is available to play. Hopefully the revamping of the website will be complete before the MSO starts on August 26th and runs for nine days to September 3rd.
Unlike Mensa, the MSO is open to anyone. Just pay the entry fee. There is a map on the MSO website here but you'll probably find this it easier via this link. I'm tempted to enter one game...
