C’mon, be brave. Tell us how it breaks down by race. I have yet to know of a MENSAN who is predoominantly of African descent. You would think that of the several hundred million Africans in the world, ONE of them would qualify for MENSA. Have you ever heard of one? This is a serious question.

I have only met one or two Black and Asian Mensans in the UK (photo here http://flickr.com/photos/davidbolton/162..) but I suspect this is a cultural issue, not race. At the Las Vegas convention in 2004 this was also true. There is only one entry requirement- passing the text. Nothing else and I include colour, religion, age and sexual preference matters.

I work in the city of London with both Black and Asian colleagues and have no doubt of their intelligence. It sometimes seems the other way!

Hi, my name is Nathaniel Fields, and I just wanted to add something. I was formerly a member of American Mensa (member # ....74753). I am African-American, and one of the reasons I left was because other Mensans would say ridiculous comments like “wow, it’s like meeting sasquatch!” I think it is attitudes like this, rather common in Mensa, that discourage African-Americans from staying members once they’ve joined. I know plenty of African-Americans that qualify (the same with any race). However, only a few enjoy the experience. If someone thinks perhaps African American Mensans may leave because they feel it is too mentally overwhelming, well first I’d have to say you’d never been to a Mensa meeting. Secondly, I am a member of Triple Nine Society, which is a group like Mensa, but with a higher minimum IQ requirement, and so far I love it.
