Gerald Ratner will be dinner guest of honour - he is famous of course for "Doing A Ratner". The Ratner name was once a fixture on British High Streets, underpinning a nationwide chain of cut-price jewellers. But he effectively killed the company in 1991 (it changed name to Signet) with a speech to the Institute of Directors, when he joked that one of his firm's products was "total crap". D'oh!

However he is back now with Gerald Online, an online Jewellers and is an experienced businessman and raconteur so I for one shall be listening intently to his speech at the dinner.
